The picnic plaza area adjacent on the north side of the castle and will accommodate up to 125 people. Aberdeen Castle (site of) The Castle of Aberdeen was first mentioned in 1264, and was destroyed in 1308 by the people of Aberdeen to stop it from falling into English hands. A block of flats now stands on the site.

Moving further south east, Castle Fraser is an elaborate castle and one of the grandest of the Castles of Mar and sits in Kemnay, 15 miles northeast of Aberdeen. Castle Fraser has 300 acres of landscaped grounds and was owned by Clan Fraser until 1921 when the last male heir died childless and it was gifted to the National Trust for Scotland in 1976.
